Rwanda government spokesperson Yolande Makolo Sunday spoke on the recent release of Paul Rusesabagina, a citizen of the Central African nation and US resident who in 2021 was sentenced to 25 years imprisonment after being found guilty of terrorism. Makolo says the case of the 68-year-old Rwandan attracted international attention after his story was portrayed in the Hollywood blockbuster, Hotel Rwanda. For more on what led to Rusesabagina’s release, host of VOA’s Daybreak Africa James Butty spoke to Makolo.
