Protests by Zimbabwe Healthcare Workers Punishable by Fine, Jail Time

Doctors or nurses from Zimbabwe's state-run hospitals could pay a hefty fine or spend up to six months in jail for participating in organized protests, according to a new law. President Emmerson Mnangagwa signed the bill into law Tuesday, following proctracted battles over salaries. Speaking with Africa 54 host Esther Githui-Ewart, Simbiso Ranga, a Zimbabwean medical doctor working in the U.S. state of North Carolina, said the law does not address the fundamental issues.
