President Biden shifts Angola visit as Florida braces for Hurricane Milton

President Joe Biden has postponed his visit to Angola because of Hurricane Milton which is projected to make landfall in Florida on Wednesday. According to NBC News, Biden was scheduled to depart for Berlin on Thursday and then to Angola. This would have been his first visit to Africa as president. Reports say the visit would have focused on US backing for the Lobito Corridor, a major infrastructure project linking Angola, the Democratic Republic of Congo, and Zambia. Amnesty International released a statement calling on Biden to press Angolan President Joao Lourenco to release five government critics arbitrarily detained for more than a year. Florindo Chivucute, executive director of Friends of Angola, tells VOA’s James Butty, his group shares Amnesty International’s views
