The U.N. refugee agency reports that violent clashes between government forces and armed groups in the Democratic Republic of Congo’s eastern provinces drove over 300,000 people from their homes in February alone. An agency spokesman reported a recent “dramatic escalation in fighting” between the rival forces. Over 130 armed groups are thought to operate in the region, responsible for a wide range of human rights violations. For VOA, Lisa Schlein has more from Geneva.
