The Greek Shipping Ministry says 78 people drowned Wednesday in the Aegean Sea after a large fishing boat loaded with migrants sank off the southern coast of Greece. The death toll is likely to rise authorities said. It’s the deadliest incident involving migrants near Greece since the peak of the migration crisis in 2015. Norwegian Refugee Council spokesperson Katleen Maes told VOA's Carol Van Dam it's the latest tragic incident in which people try to flee an unsafe environment.
