Nigeria Trade Unionist Speaks on Plight of Workers

In Nigeria, workers groups have expressed concern about what they are calling difficult economic conditions due to the troubled implementation of the new currency. Workers say the timing was wrong and is negatively impacting the lives of members and weakening the fundamentals of the economy.  Proponents of the policy, which President Muhammadu Buhari delayed last week by 60 days, say it is creating a level playing field that will prevent presidential candidates with deep pockets from buying votes.  VOA's Peter Clottey sat down with Owei Lakenfa, former secretary-general of the African Trade Union Unity, about the concerns and the state of Nigeria's public sector workers.
