Nigerian opposition politician Peter Obi of the Labor Party has criticized President Bola Tinubu for sending a large delegation to the COP28 climate conference in Dubai. The Nigeria Daily Post says there are 1,141 delegates who made the trip. President Tinubu Monday defended the numbers, saying they are in line with Nigeria’s status as “Africa’s leading sovereign voice and player in climate action.” Yunusa Tanko, Labor Party spokesperson, tells VOA’s James Butty, the large delegation is a waste of public resources amid a struggling economy.
