An official of the Nigeria Labor Congress says labor unions will embark on a nationwide indefinite strike starting October 3, because the federal government has failed to address their concerns about high cost of living following the removal of fuel subsidies. However, a labor ministry spokesperson was quoted by local media late Wednesday as saying that the government will do everything to avert the strike. The official said President Bola Tinubu will announce new measures in his speech to mark Nigeria’s Independence Day on October 1. Emmanuel Ugboaja, Secretary General of the Nigeria Labor Congress, tells VOA’s James Butty, the government has failed to fulfill previous promises.
