Civil society delegates participating in peace talks between South Sudan’s government and rebel groups in Nairobi say the process, dubbed the Tumaini or Hope Initiative, has facilitated important discussions on crucial governance and peace issues. Rajab Mohandis, a member of the civilian opposition group the People’s Coalition for Civil Action, says that while the discussions have been fruitful, the process should address the core problems of South Sudan and investigate the repeated delays in implementing the 2018 peace agreement, which was supposed to lead the nation to its first democratic election by the end of the year. He spoke from Nairobi with VOA's Nabeel Biajo.
