The Malawi government has asked the courts to stay a ruling nullifying the appointment of Charles Kalumo as director of the Department of Immigration and Citizenship Services. The judge last week agreed with petitioners that President Lazarus contravened the Public Service Act when he appointed Kalumo, and the court agreed. Some Kalumo supporters say the clamor by some for his removal is because he has been effective in fighting corruption at the Malawi Immigration Service. Information Minister Moses Kunkuyu tells VOA’s James Butty, the attorney general has filed a motion for stay of the ruling.
