Malawi Police Frees Political Activist Kalindo

The police in Malawi have released a political activist arrested Wednesday a few hours before he was to lead anti-government demonstrations. Bon Kalindo has been freed after a magistrate’s court in the capital Lilongwe suspended the arrest warrant it gave the police, saying it was wrongly obtained. But rights campaigners say the arrest of Kalindo was an attempt to foil planned anti-government demonstrations. Lameck Masina reports from Blantyre
