Liberia’s ruling party denies threatening embattled Speaker

Liberia’s ruling Unity Party is denying any connection to allegations by the embattled Speaker of the House of Representatives that someone has threatened his life. According to local media, Speaker J. Fonati Koffa’s office alleged on Sunday that someone had sent him a threatening message warning him to resign. Meanwhile, there was chaos Monday between the two sides in the dispute about the speakership of the House of Representatives, prompting the national police to intervene. Speaker Koffa’s side accused the police of siding with the group that wants to unseat him. Luther Tarpeh, National Chairperson of the ruling Unity Party, tells VOA’s James Butty, the party is a peace-loving institution that believes in coexistence.
