Liberian President George Weah last week named new members of the country’s Anti-Corruption Commission, including new chair, Alexander Kormah Zoe. The nominations are subject to Senate confirmation. Meanwhile, soon-to-be former chair, Edwin Kla Martin said reconstituting the commission is a flagrant violation of the constitution. Last year, Kla Martin recommended the prosecution of several government officials for alleged corruption. Soon afterward, the Liberian legislature amended the law creating the Anti-Corruption bureau limiting the powers of the body to freeze the assets of allegedly corrupt government officials. Kla Martin tells Daybreak Africa host James Butty, he plans to go back to the Supreme Court for clarification of the law.
