Despite Tuesday's large rally in Bahr-el-Ghazal endorsing President Salva Kiir as the Sudan People's Liberation Movement party's candidate for the 2024 presidential election, there are still constitutional steps to be taken. According to Professor Jok Madut Jok, a South Sudanese anthropology expert from New York-based Syracuse University, President Kiir, who also serves as the party chairman, has yet to receive the official nomination as the flag-bearer and presidential candidate through the party's national convention. Jok also tells VOA's Nabeel Biajo Kiir's speech during the rally in Wau failed to address crucial issues that need to be tackled before the December 2024 elections.
