Njeri wa Migwi is a domestic violence survivor. In 2019, she co-founded and became CEO of Usikimye, which means “don’t be silent” in Swahili. The organization aims to help rescue and assist Kenya’s silent victims of gender-based violence who feel helpless and trapped in violent relationships.
In January alone, she tells me that 32 Kenyan women were victims of femicide, defined by the United Nations as the intentional killing with a gender-related motivation.
Njeri starts out by telling me her personal story…. which unfolds with a decade of domestic abuse.
