On this special edition of Straight Talk Africa, we examine the escalating war between Israel and Hamas. Israeli forces are pushing deeper into Gaza as Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu dismissed calls by the United Nations for a cease-fire. People seeking shelter from airstrikes in Gaza are facing blackouts, lack of food, clean water, and adequate medical care. The Hamas-run Gaza health ministry says the death toll has risen to more than 8,000. More than 1,400 people in Israel have been killed, most of them civilians, during the initial Hamas rampage that started the fighting on October 7.
