Gabonese voters will go to the polls on Saturday to elect a president and members of parliament. President Ali Bongo Ondimba, whose family has ruled the country for 56 years, has amended the constitution several times to guarantee their continued rule. Five of the nineteen opposition candidates agreed last week to support one candidate. Franck Jockatan, Gabonese human rights and democracy activist, tells VOA’s James Butty, he’s excited about opposition unity and hopes it would lead to victory.
