National Geographic Explorer Examines Value of Mangroves

Tropical marine forests known as mangroves, are crucial for the survival of the local inhabitants and aid in the fight against climate change. However, they are in danger of being lost due to coastal communities cutting down the trees for building materials, fuel, and even medication. For more, VOA's Jackson Mvunganyi spoke to Margaret Awuor Owuor, an environmental scientist and National Geographic explorer, who studies mangroves and the communities that surround them. Margaret's work in the Amazon is part of the National Geographic and Rolex Perpetual Planet Amazon Expedition.
