Inside today's edition: another story about how the Coronavirus is affecting African music. Out of Copenhagen, Denmark- VOA reporter Jason Patinkin brings us a fascinating interview with Kenyan ohangla artist, Makadem. He is stranded there and explains what it’s like to be, what he calls, a Coronoavirus Refugee. The playlist includes modern Cape Verdean morna (Mayra Andrade), Ohangla, Maharganet (Hamo Beka), Zimbawean marimba pop (Blessing Chimanga), Camer Afropop (Kameni), Ugandan dancehall (Eddy Kenzo), Nigerian Afrohouse (Niniola), French Afrobeats (Dadju ft Burna Boy) and alternative (Raashan Ahmad). Song of the Week is “Suzanna” by Kenya’s Superband Sauti Sol and Kwame joins me virtually for that and, going way back in time, I have a mini vintage-tune medley of traditional music from Sierra Leone, Botswana, and Ethiopia! These recordings were featured on a Music Time in Africa Broadcast on August 23, 1981.
