ECOWAS Seeks Peaceful Resolution of Niger Crisis

Nigeria’s information minister Mohammed Idris Malagi says President Bola Tinubu and the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) believe military intervention in Niger remains a last resort. This, as there was speculation Thursday that ECOWAS had proposed a nine-month timetable for a transition to democracy and elections in Niger. Information Minister Mohammed Idris Malagi says President Tinubu, who is president of ECOWAS, remains resolute that the forceful removal of a democratic government is not acceptable.
