ECOWAS Niger Junta Ultimatum Expires

The seven-day ultimatum imposed by the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) for Niger’s military leaders to return ousted President Mohamed Bazoum to power expired on Sunday with no indication of a military intervention by the sub-regional group. France had expressed its support for any intervention. Meanwhile, there were signs of hesitation and criticism Sunday in some capitals of the plan and its impact on the region.
