Residents of the Masisi and Kalehe territories in the east of the Democratic Republic of Congo are denouncing harassment by young resistance fighters who have joined self-defense groups to confront the M23 rebels. The young people, known locally as Wazalendo, are accused of setting up illegal roadblocks where they charge taxes to travelers. However, their leaders reject the allegations.
