President Azali Assoumani of Comoros has been re-elected to his fourth five-year term following Sunday’s presidential election. According to Reuters, results published by the national electoral commission late Tuesday showed Assoumani received 62.97 percent of the vote. Assoumani pushed through a controversial constitutional constitution amendment in 2018 to remove consecutive term limits. Fahmy Thabit, a member of the "The Sentinels of the Polls," a civil society group that organizes election monitoring in Comoros, tells VOA’s James Butty, the opposition can challenge the results, but they know that Assoumani appointed the judges and members of the electoral commission.
