Chad’s military leader General Mahamat Idriss Deby Itno Monday named opposition leader Succes Masra the country’s new prime minister. The French News Agency reports the announcement was made through a decree. Masra returned to Chad in November. His predecessor resigned on December 30. Clement Abaifouta, president of the Chadian Association of Victims of Political Repression and Crime, which investigates abuses tells VOA’s James Butty Masra’s appointment means a transition to democratic rule is on track.
