A Sudan expert is expressing cautious optimism about the latest news that Sudan’s two warring parties have agreed to sign a cessation of hostilities. According to the Associated Press, General Abdel Fattah al-Burhan of the Sudanese Sovereign Council and Rapid Support Forces (RSF) leader Mohamed Hamdan Daglo reached the deal at Saturday’s summit of the Intergovernmental Authority on Development (IGAD) heads of state in Djibouti. Suliman Baldo, director of Sudan Transparency and Policy Tracker, tells VOA’s James Butty, he’s cautious because Sudan’s foreign ministry issued a statement Sunday saying that the IGAD communique did not accurately reflect the resolution signed by the heads of state.
