Mediterranean storm Daniel caused devastating floods in Libya that swept away entire neighborhoods in the east of the North African nation, according to Osama Hammad, Benghazi-based prime minister.
"The number of people killed exceeded 2,000, entire neighborhoods were swept away by the (flood) water," said Hammad on Monday during a television interview.
One of the worst-hit regions was the port city of Derna in eastern Libya, which was declared a disaster zone after two dams there collapsed and large parts of it were submerged, cutting off communications and electricity.
