Amnesty International Urges Wealthy Nations to Pledge Payments at COP29 as Climate Crisis Displaces Millions in Africa

As the 2024 United Nations Climate Change Conference (COP29) continues in Baku, Amnesty International is urging wealthy nations to make significant financial commitments to support communities in sub-Saharan Africa suffering from climate change impacts. Nciko wa Nciko, Amnesty’s Climate Justice Researcher, notes that wealthy countries have so far pledged less than $700 million of the $400 billion expected by lower-income nations to combat the climate crisis.
