Blinken joined United Nations talks with African representatives where he discussed issues that are impeding access to food globally.

U.S. Secretary of State Antony Blinken on Wednesday met with foreign ministers from 10 African countries to discuss issues surrounding food security at a United Nations meeting in New York.

The African countries represented include the Democratic Republic of the Congo, Egypt, Gabon, Ghana, Kenya, Mauritania, Nigeria, South Africa, Zambia and Senegal.

Blinken — who was accompanied by U.S. Ambassador to the U.N. Linda Thomas-Greenfield and U.S. Assistant Secretary of State for African Affairs Mary Catherine Phee — emphasized the devastating impact of the COVID-19 pandemic, climate change, drought in the Horn of Africa and Russia’s war in Ukraine.
