Abyei, a disputed region claimed by both Sudan and South Sudan, suffered a surge of violence over the weekend that left at least 23 people dead. This latest attack follows a series of assaults just days before, during which up to 52 civilians were killed. In response to these alarming events, the United Nations peacekeeping mission in the area, known as UNISFA, has swiftly condemned the violence and launched an investigation to identify the perpetrators. Additionally, UNISFA says it has intensified security measures and surveillance efforts in the troubled region. VOA’s Nabeel Biajo discusses these developments with Antonette Miday, spokesperson for UNISFA.
