The refusal of hundreds of illegal miners to resurface from an abandoned gold mine in South Africa’s North West Province is proving a challenge for the government. Russia looked to its interests in Sudan and North Africa when it vetoed a U.N. Security Council resolution calling for an immediate end to the war in Sudan. India has long had close relationships with some African countries, and on analyst says Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s recent visit to Nigeria days aimed to build on those ties.
