In Zambia, independent Member of Parliament Jay Banda has escaped from what police call ‘lawful custody.’ He was being guarded at Chipata General Hospital where he was receiving medical treatment while awaiting trial for aggravated robbery. Zambian Home Affairs Minister Jack Mwiimbu says Banda escaped Sunday evening despite being guarded by two Zambia police officers. Information Minister Cornelius Mweetwa tells VOA’s James Butty, that Banda tricked the police officers by saying that he needed some privacy with his wife.
