Zimbabwe is hosting the annual summit of the 16-nation Southern African Development Community on Saturday, and human rights organizations have urged SADC to look at the country's human rights situation. The United States and United Nations aid agencies welcome the opening of the Adre border crossing with Chad, which will allow humanitarian aid to flow to millions of people trapped in war-torn Sudan. Herman Bekele, 15, is an Ethiopia native who lives near Washington and he’s been named Time Magazine’s 2024 Kid of the Year, for inventing a soap that could one day treat and even prevent skin cancer.
