U.S. Vice President Kamala Harris announced her running mate in the presidential election will be Tim Walz, the governor of the upper Midwestern state of Minnesota. In a letter to Morocco’s King Mohammed VI, France's President Emmanuel Macron called Morocco’s 2007 proposal to offer the Western Sahara limited autonomy under its sovereignty the "only basis" to solve the dispute over control of the Western Sahara. The International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies is appealing for urgent life-saving support for tens of thousands of landslide survivors in Ethiopia, as the country braces for more disasters.
