Health Report: Autism Awareness Day Observed in Africa

April 2nd is Autism Awareness Day worldwide, a day set aside to educate the public about autism and support those suffering from it. The theme this year is "Empowering Autistic Voices." Autism Spectrum Disorder is a developmental illness characterized by challenges with social skills, repetitive behaviors, and speech and nonverbal communication. About 1 in 100 children worldwide has autism, according to the World Health Organization.
