South Sudan in Focus: Some South Sudanese are criticizing the government for not organizing a celebration of the country’s 11th independence anniversary. The government says there will be no public celebration due to a lack of funds; Pope Francis, the Archbishop of Canterbury Reverend Justine Welby, and the moderator of the Church of Scotland, the Right Reverend Iain Greenshields called on the people of South Sudan and the Democratic Republic of Congo to work together to promote peace.
