The Sudan People’s Liberation Movement-In Opposition (SPLM-IO) says it will not take part in the 2023 general election unless South Sudan’s peace partners fully implement the 2018 peace agreement before the end of the transitional period; Authorities in Melut County of South Sudan’s Upper Nile State have arrested at least nine people accused of fomenting inter-communal violence and insecurity in the area; Officials with the Sudan-South Sudan Joint Political and Security Mechanism (JPSM) have agreed to re-activate the Abyei Joint Oversight Committee and open the Kosti river border crossing to enable the movement of goods and people between the two countries.
