While it’s generally thought that humans first set foot in the Americas about 13,000 years ago, a new study, led by researchers at the UK’s Bournemouth University, provides evidence of human activity 23,000 years ago in what is now White Sands National Park in New Mexico. The researchers studied the fossilized footprints of children, teens, and adults that were gathered by the US Geological Survey in 2009.
