World mourns basketball great Dikembe Mutombo
The sports world, especially fans in the Democratic Republic of Congo and Africa, are remembering basketball great Dikembe Mutombo who passed away Monday at the age of 58. According to the National Basketball Association (NBA), Dikembe played for several teams, including the Denver Nuggets, Atlanta Hawks, Philadelphia 76ers, New Jersey Nets, New York Knicks and the Houston Rockets. He was inducted into the Naismith Basketball Hall of Fame in 2015. He was also an eight-time NBA All-Star and won the league’s Defensive Player of the Year award four times. Abraham Luakabuanga, National Secretary of the ruling UDPS in DRC in charge of Communication, tells VOA’s James Butty, Congolese have lost a national sports hero and humanitarian.
