VOA Our Voices 423: Child Marriage: Too Young to Legally Wed
Africa has 130 million child brides, girls under the age of 18 who are already married and adult women who were married as children, according to the United Nations Children's Fund. The UN agency recently called for African governments and regional institutions to end child marriage for the protection of the girl child. On this edition of Our Voices, we’ll examine new laws by some African nations to address underage girls marrying and explore the many different factors such as climate change, natural disasters, and cultural norms as to why the numbers of child marriage have doubled on the continent.
