WASHINGTON — U.S. President Donald Trump on Friday cut aid to South Africa by signing an executive order titled, "Addressing Egregious Actions of The Republic of South Africa."

"In shocking disregard of its citizens' rights, the Republic of South Africa recently enacted Expropriation Act 13 of 2024 (Act), to enable the government of South Africa to seize ethnic minority Afrikaners' agricultural property without compensation," read the order.

To protect the Afrikaners who will be affected by act, the executive order pledged that "the United States shall promote the resettlement of Afrikaner refugees escaping government-sponsored race-based discrimination, including racially discriminatory property confiscation."

Responding to the executive order in a statement posted via the social media platform X, South Africa's Minister of International Relations, Ronald Lamola, wrote that the government of South Africa "has taken note of the latest executive order issued by President Trump," and expressed concern that "the foundational premise of this order lacks factual accuracy and fails to recognize South Africa's profound and painful history of colonialism and apartheid."

The statement concluded by saying that "South Africa remains committed to finding diplomatic solutions to any misunderstandings or disputes."
