Kenyan opposition leader urges amnesty for jailed anti-tax protesters
In Kenya, a leading opposition member called President William Ruto’s sacking of his entire cabinet an action that’s too little and too late. On Thursday, president Ruto fired all but his foreign minister in response to anti-tax protests. He said he will consult with other political stakeholders in reconstituting the cabinet. Martha Karua, leader of the National Rainbow Coalition – Kenya (NARC-Kenya) party who served as Raila Odinga’s running mate during the 2022 presidential elections, tells VOA’s James Butty, that President Ruto must first release without conditions all arrested Gen-Z protesters, apologize, and then compensate them
