Gambia’s parliament rejects FGM bill
The parliament of Gambia voted Monday to reject a bill that would have ended a ban on female genital mutilation (FGM) in the country. Isatou Dea Sawanneh, chair of the Gambian National Women’s Council and an FGM survivor, tells VOA’s James Butty, the defeat of the bill means that practicing FGM in Gambia will from now on be a criminal offense
