Elon Musk, the co-founder of Space X's Startlink Saturday said his company will support communication links in Gaza to "internationally recognized aid organizations" — a response to telephone and internet blackouts in the war affected Palestinian territory.

Writing on his social media X platform, formerly known as Twitter, Musk said it was not clear who has authority for ground links in Gaza.

But we do know that "no terminal has requested a connection to that area," Musk said.

In response to a social media post by U.S. Congresswoman Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, also known as AOC, where she condemned the cutting of telecommunications and internet in Gaza, Musk said "Starlink will support connectivity to internationally recognized aid organizations in Gaza."

The besieged area Saturday experienced a continued telephone and internet blackout that left residents incapable of calling loved ones, ambulances or colleagues elsewhere — developments that happened as Israel widened its aid and ground assault in attempts of striking Hamas militia.

International humanitarian organizations said the blackout, which began on Friday evening, was worsening an already desperate situation by impeding life-saving operations and preventing them from contacting their staff on the ground.

SpaceX did not immediately respond to attempts to comment on how they will make sure the Starlink connection is used by aid organizations and not by either of the warring parties.

Following Russia's February 2022 invasion of Ukraine, Starlink satellites were reported to have been critical to maintaining internet connectivity in some areas despite attempted Russian jamming.

Since then, Musk said he declined to extend coverage over Russian-occupied Crimea, refusing to allow his satellites to be used for Ukrainian attacks on Russian forces there.
