he deadly incident in the village of Murambi in South Kivu province came after "several rivers burst their banks", said local official Pascal Cinama.
Two men, three women and four children died, he added.
"We also have 20 wounded and 50 houses destroyed," Cinama said.
"The search is continuing to try to find other victims in the rubble and mud carried by the rainwater," said Didier Misuka, a local civil society leader.
He said several families were left homeless and in need of urgent assistance.
Heavy rain has caused several such incidents in the east of the DRC in recent weeks.
Sixteen people died on November 22 in Kamituga, also in South Kivu, when floodwaters swept away a number of houses and caused others to collapse.
At least 20 others were killed the previous week in the neighbouring province of North Kivu.
At least nine people were killed and 20 injured in landslides triggered by heavy rains in eastern Democratic Republic of Congo, a local official said Wednesday.
